Brief Overview:

The Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) was first developed in San José in the 1970’s. Over the years, agencies have evolved in their process, direction, community service and mission. This program has proven to be legally defensible, flexible and meant to be modified and updated to grow with community expectation, agency growth and updated policies.

During this course you will learn how to implement, modify or update a solid training program for your agency by learning:

 Background of FTEP

 Trainee Orientation

 Evaluating Performance

 Communication Skills

 Adult Learning Theory

 Generational Changes

 Trainer Selection Process

 Liability

 Corrective Training

 FTEP Phases

 Termination

 Ethics as a Trainer

This training will also cover some of the popular philosophies and practices from the similar Police Training Officer (PTO) program, which requires trainees to have ownership in their learning by developing problem-solving skills, self-reflection and emotional intelligence.
