Crisis communication and verbal de-escalation skills are essential in helping Correctional Officers successfully diffuse hostile or difficult situations inside the confines of a correctional facility. Correctional officers have minimal tools to control situations, and communication skills are one of the most important.

Attendees will leave this class with a practical set of skills that they can use to:

·         De-escalate or stabilize angry/violent behavior

·         Establish meaningful dialog with the threat

·         Engage in emotional control tactics

·         Establish a therapeutic rapport

·         Gather meaningful intelligence from the threat/victims

·         Tips working with inmates dealing with mental health crisis
