Fundamentals of Force Science
Human Performance Dynamics in Force Incidents have proven to be critical factors in the development of policy, training, and investigation. This presentation will focus on the latest research on assailant behavior, that used high speed digital video imaging, accelerometers and gyroscopes to measure the speed and nature of assaults. It will also address the necessary training required to effectively address these threats, including skill and decision training. This will be compared to the training results from a three-year, comprehensive study on force training in three states and three countries. The implications for investigation as well as an understanding between digital memory (video) and human memory in force encounters will also be presented.

Guardians of Democracy
With Community, Safety, Science and Statistics as the basis of our course, The Guardians of Democracy begins by examining how the media, activist groups and national events have shaped the community’s perception of Law Enforcement. We follow-up with a discussion about how this has affected Management Decisions and consequently, the officer’s role in proactive policing.
We then explore the Professional Goal; Controlling, Re-Directing and Influencing Others through Effective Communication. Using current videos, case studies and first-hand accounts of officer involved incidents, the presentation will:
1. Analyze the true statistics of officer use of force interactions.
2. Educate Students in the Science of Human Performance as it relates to memory, time motion and selective attention during highly dynamic encounters.
3. Teach the Communication Skills necessary to read people, interact effectively and establish rapport with communities we serve.
4. Offer critical techniques in de-escalation, calming the irrational and dealing with the mentally ill.
As with all Calibre Press curricula, this course is constantly evolving, updating as this profession evolves. Course topics will include, but are not limited to:

Chief Schutz shares her personal story and struggle to break from mainstream decision making, both as an officer and as an administrator, in addressing issues that the law enforcement community must deal with daily. Chief Schutz’s fresh approach encourages her audience to look into themselves for hidden innovative solutions to make our profession better for future generations. The Chief puts it all on the line for officers and administrators to feel empowered and courageous to work together in choosing what the roads to our future might be. Chief Schutz calls this “Uncommon Decision Making to Uncommon Leadership”.
