Brief Overview:

This hands-on class is designed for every patrol officer/deputy, as well as new detectives. No prior search warrant experience is required. It is also a great refresher course for people who already have some experience writing search warrants. After reviewing search warrant concepts and how to obtain a search warrant, class members will write three search warrants (including one for Facebook) and an arrest warrant based on realistic practical scenarios. The instructor or a deputy district attorney will provide feedback on affidavits and search warrants written.

Search warrants are vital to every investigator. Learn when they’re required and how to efficiently write affidavits to get that evidence you need for your case. Tips and tricks will be shared on how to contact the right people at various organizations and web sites. Samples of search warrants and affidavits will be shared. As part of the class, the instructor will review the electronic process of preserving and obtaining records from Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

Each student will leave the class with arrest and search warrant templates and forms to make search warrant writing easier when they return to their agency.
