Brief Overview:

Instructors will lead students in hands-on training using Microsoft Excel to review actual bank records in a case scenario setting. Students will learn tips and tricks in Excel to maximize the evidence in their financial investigations. Instructors will teach students how to present their findings to a prosecutor with simplified summaries of the financial records.

This class will feature intermediate level skills however, those with basic skills are encouraged to attend.

Obtaining Financial Records:

  • Methods to locate Financial records
  • Identifying the correct legal process to obtain financial records
  • Templates of subpoenas, search warrants and other forms will be provided.

Review Financial Records:

  • Import records into Microsoft Excel

  • Using Excel to ensure records are complete

Presenting Financial Records:

  • Incorporating data from Excel into police reports
  • Using data to create valuable exhibits
Instructors will also discuss nuances in elder financial exploitation cases, DOJ support for financial investigations, and provide additional Excel online resources to support students.

Supplies/Prerequisites:

Familiarity of Excel is encouraged.  Laptop with Excel 2016 or newer and laptop power cord.
